Evolving Technology: Distributed Diagnosis
Released: July 01, 2008 Expires: July 01, 2009 CE credits: 1 Cost: $0.00
Faculty: Eliot Siegel, MD, Sean Casey, MD, Howard B Kessler, MD
In this supplement, Dr. Sean Casey, CEO of Virtual Radiologic Corp., discusses the importance of workflow analysis and optimization in a distributed practice and 8 pitfalls that can impair a practice’s efficiency. His widely distributed practice, like those of other large distributed groups, has worked very hard to address and overcome these issues that are especially critical to the success of a teleradiology company. His advice applies, however, not only to teleradiology practices but also to the majority of current radiology practices that now have multiple information systems spread across multiple locations.
Dr. Howard Kessler, Director of Technology Development and Chief Operating Officer of Radiology Solutions, discusses the technology, but also the philosophic, business, and socioeconomic aspects and the potential associated with a distributed imaging practice. He also addresses the benefits of such a practice and lists the risks associated with implementing a distributed imaging system. Finally, Dr. Kessler provides practical advice and questions to consider when planning to expand a practice’s services.

Implementation of Digital Mammography in the Workplace
Selected Papers from the 10th Annual Digital X-Ray and PACS Educational Forum
Released: September 01, 2007 Expires: September 30, 2008 CE credits: 5 Cost: $55.00

In this program, the authors address various topics that relate to the implementation of digital mammography in the workplace. We offer the perspectives of the physicist, technologist, and radiologist as well as an assessment of cost and workflow. We will also gain perspectives on the challenges regarding connectivity and archiving. Also, throughout our technologic transformations, we must remember that mammography does not stand alone but is part of an armamentarium of other modalities that help us to detect, assess, and diagnose breast cancer.
